About Indian Astronomers Around the World
The Motivation
Indian astronomers are spread across universities, research institutes, observatories, and industry positions worldwide.
Despite this global presence, opportunities for regular interaction, collaboration, and knowledge sharing across borders remain limited.
Indian Astronomers Around the World (IAAW) was created to help bridge this gap by providing a common platform for academic exchange and community building.
Objectives
The initiative aims to:
- Facilitate regular interaction among Indian astronomers worldwide
- Promote research exchange and interdisciplinary collaboration
- Provide visibility and opportunities for early-career researchers
- Share expertise through talks, workshops, and lectures
- Encourage mentorship and peer support within the community
Activities
IAAW focuses on low-barrier, high-impact academic activities, including:
- Online research colloquia
- Skill-based and technical workshops
- Lecture series on emerging topics
- Informal discussions on research culture, careers, and best practices
All events are organized online to ensure global accessibility.
Organization
The initiative is coordinated by a small group of volunteer organizers from different institutions and career stages.
Organizers rotate and expand as the community grows.
If you are interested in helping organize events or contributing to the initiative, please get in touch.
Community Ethos
IAAW is committed to:
- Academic openness
- Inclusivity across career stages
- Respectful and constructive interaction
- Transparency in organization and decision-making
The initiative is non-profit, volunteer-driven, and independent of any single institution.
